78 Club
The 78 Club is a VIP member’s club with a difference.
Launched by the pioneers behind MULL Cafe, the 78 Club is intended as a unique opportunity for medical cannabis patients to socialise in a safe-spaSuperintendent Pharmacistce environment.
Our aim is to bring together a community who are often stigmatised simply for having a medical condition, which can be made better using a natural, legal remedy.
The consumption of medical cannabis is often mis-understood. If a medicine has been prescribed then a qualified Doctor has made an informed decision that its the right medicine for their patient. As a result, a script holder should be able to take a dose of their medicine when they feel they need it, in the same way an asthma patient would use an inhaler.
The Tobacco Amendment Act 2016 (VIC) backs this up. A patient is legally, as well as morally, entitled to consume prescribed medicine where and when they need it.
How Does 78 Club Work?
We want to level with you.
The 78 Club is a new concept and we’ll be on this journey alongside our members. To make this work, we have to strike a balance between making 78 Club enjoyable and useful to members, while respecting the legal situation of cannabis in Australia. With that in mind, here are the current membership ‘terms and conditions’:
You must be a patient with a valid Medical Cannabis prescription. You will need to show evidence it is genuine & current. Your prescription can be from any clinic certified to prescribe cannabis.
Smoking is NOT allowed inside the cafe. We understand many patients prefer to smoke cannabis flower. However, inside the cafe the anti-smoking laws still apply. In addition, our MULLtenders should not be exposed to second-hand smoke.
Vaping is not allowed near the bar area so our staff do not inhale vapour. Our Mulltenders are 100% 420-friendly, but they have requested a ‘clean air’ space between the bar area and the main floor.
Our security staff are one of us. If they politely ask to see your prescription, please show them or they may refuse admittance.
Very, very important - Due to current Australian law we must have a zero tolerance for illegal drugs. Until the law changes we could lose our licence if an illegal drug is taken within the cafe. Our security will take robust action if prohibited drugs are consumed on the premises (without a prescription!).
Finally, we face a crazy legal situation. Namely, we understand if you have a medical prescription you’re entitled to vape your medicine. However, this does not entitle you to share your medicine with a friend. Your medicine is yours and yours alone. Passing it to a friend makes you a dealer. Crazy, but true. No passing or sharing, please. Yes, it’s frustrating but to make this work we all have to play by the current legal rules.
