THE MULL STORY
The story of MULL is the story of counter-culture in Australia and its reverberating impact on the lifestyle choices of millions of people around the world.
It starts during the 1970’s in the small town of Mullumbimby on the most Eastern edge of Australia.
The neighbouring 'Nimbin Music Festival' - the Aussie equivalent of Woodstock - initially attracted a mixture of hippies, surfers and adventure seekers to the area. Many of them stayed, forming communities in the surrounding hills that still exist today. Cannabis played a central role in their day-to-day lives and one strain in particular became synonymous with the area - a 20ft tall Sativa named “Mullumbimby Madness”.
Gary MacKenzie, MULL’s CEO and Co-Founder, fondly recalls, "Every year we'd get excited before the new 'Mull' arrived. You'd hear all these crazy rumours about people who'd smoked it. Waiting for it to arrive felt like a kid at Christmas. It had a distinct purple flower and was really smooth, but very strong!"
Mullumbimby Madness was Gary’s introduction into the craft of cannabis production, the diversity of strains around the world and the many beneficial experiences they offer.
Despite cannabis being restricted in most countries, and to the consternation of many politicians who’s rhetorical “War on Drugs” is the centrepiece of their drugs policy, the plant not only provides medical relief to millions of patients, it shapes and influences our culture in a myriad of extraordinary ways. Music, fashion, art, gaming - wherever you look, the attitudes, language and culture of cannabis continues to influence generations.
MULL is a celebration of the cannabis lifestyle. First and foremost, Mull offers a community for like-minded people to gather, talk and chill. Our cafe offers a physical place to meet-up. We chose to make the cafe a “Zero% Proof” bar because, as consumers ourselves, we don’t want to mix with alcohol.
MULL is passionate about the same things as our community - music, fashion, outdoor sport, gaming and quality food. Our aim is to be guided by our community and invite you to become involved to help shape our collective future.
